New Climbing and Outdoor Gear Review Site

When not falling off cliffs, I have a day job climbing up them.

Randy and I just launched a new gear review section of SuperTopo. We are setting out to create the most detailed and informative gear reviews out there climbing and outdoor products. We choose a product category use the gear on El Capitan, falling off big cliffs and in our gear lab. Then we post up what gear is the best. Check it out and let us know what you think!

We also launched an article section where we post buying advice. How do you select the best belay device or helmet? We tell you here.

Finally, we launched a Pricefinder. This scours the web for the best deal on outdoor gear. Give it a shot before you buy something.

I am currently in Italy working filming for the new Sender Films movie The Sharp End. Its going to be mostly heady climbing but they let me sneek in a little wingsuit BASE into their movie.

After 2 days of rain, we finally got some sun. Here is the second jump of the day of an awesome 4000' cliff. Damien Dykman was right behind me and ill post some of his footage tomorrow.

Wingsuit Ski BASE Jumping

Just got word from Shane McConkey that him and some buddies have been Wingsuit Ski BASE jumping over that last week in Norway. They might be the first people ever to do this. Here is some video from Shane's headcam from a jump two days ago.

Shane describes the experience: JT Holmes and I along with Tom Erik Hieman and Thomas Hesta did some really idiotic and dam fun stuff today. Here at the Griseskolten (sp?) Norway. Tom Erik and Thomas were doing some nice long delay two way straight air ski bases and keeping their skis on. Thomas did something like almost ten seconds. We'll have to see what the video says. JT and I were doing wing suit double and triple gainer ski base to release the skis to fly away. I have to say that wing suit ski base is fun as hell and easy as hell too. Totally bitchen! Here's a little clip of it. This video doesn't do nearly enough justice to how dam fun it was though. Wing suit flying with ski boots on is kinda weird too.

The latest from the VKB (some of the best trackers and wingsuit flyers in the world). These guys live in Norway which is the most accessible steep big wall playground in the world. They take full advantage of it and have created some of the most stunning footage ever of flying really close to stuff.

In the Alps in the fall of 2006, Yuri Kuznetsov did the second flight of the world's biggest BASE jump: 2000m of vertical altitude used (6560 feet). The first jump had been made just days earlier by Jean-Noel Itzstein. This is my video of attempting to make the third flight. I only got about 5000 feet of the flight because I had a shaky exit and not so great flight. As a result, I had to improvise the landing.
